Ten sentenced of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
